Robert Stanley Crampton

An award-winning self-shooting director and editor with extensive experience creating compelling and engaging films, branded content and commercial work.

I'm a natural storyteller. Never happier than when I’m working with people to get their story told – be that in documentary, brand film, image or copy.

I love getting authentic voices on film. It’s something I’ve honed ever since my work experience in the documentary department at Yorkshire TV, under the late Grant McKee on Barry Cockcroft‘s Hannah Hauxwell follow up ‘Too Many a Winter’.

I’ve recently completed a feature-length documentary ‘Shove It – the Xero Slingsby story’ about the legendary Leeds jazz punk, which premiered at Leeds International Film Festival, as well as ‘Still Here?’ a short film looking into surviving Borderline Personality Disorder (selected for the Little Venice Film Festival).

My background is in the advertising space – I’ve had a successful career as an award-winning strategic creative at a number of integrated agencies – and have been making and editing films professionally for 10 years, under the Stanley Studio banner: working across the entire creative process from ideation, scoping, and scripting to budgeting, casting filming and editing. I’ve produced and films, TVCs and social media shorts for the likes of Oxfam, Guinness, Visit Dubai, and profile films for ad agencies, authors, artists, musicians, dancers, including the ten-part web series for Arts Council England, ‘Culture Shop’.

Away from the filmic aspect of storytelling, I took myself through a part-time MA in Creative Writing to enhance my storytelling techniques and get a deeper understanding of how and why stories connect with people, with inspirational tutors including His Dark Materials author Philip Pullman and Booker prize winner Bernardine Evaristo.

How can I help you tell your story?

‘‘Robert is not only an incredibly talented filmmaker, but he's also a breeze to work with. If you're looking for someone who can bring your vision to life with ease, look no further. His creative output is top-notch, and I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him.’’
— Isaac Harvey, Disability Power 100 & MBE

‘‘Robert is an incredibly talented, experienced, and diligent filmmaker. He is also a calm and kind human. He went above and beyond to make sure the film was the very best it could be - we've already been selected for two festivals! He was source of lots of great ideas, while remaining curious and open-minded to everyone else's too. I'm beyond grateful to have worked together and can't wait to partner again on another project, hopefully very soon.’’
— Solène Anglaret, Be Beyond Borders

“Inspiring, insightful, passionate, challenging – Robert Crampton stood out from the very start. First he inspired and excited us; then he adapted, re-imagined and reassured as he challenged us to be brave. Let Bob inspire and challenge you, you won’t regret it.’’
— Karl Watson, Inntravel
